Hill sections change the plumbing. Pressure at the top of a Cashmere driveway is not the pressure at the bottom of it, and that's before you get to the access and the gas.
Water pressure on the hill
The single most common Cashmere call is about pressure. Every metre of elevation costs you pressure — roughly 10 kPa per metre of rise — so a house well up the hill is working with meaningfully less than a house on the flat, before any of it reaches the fixtures.
On top of that, hill properties often have long supply runs from the toby up a steep driveway, and length costs pressure too. Add a low pressure cylinder and the shower on the top floor becomes a genuine disappointment.
It's a solvable problem, and the right answer depends on the house — sometimes a mains pressure cylinder, sometimes gas continuous flow sized properly for the run, occasionally a pump. What matters is that someone actually measures rather than guesses. See hot water cylinders.
Gas on the Port Hills
- Bottled LPG is the norm rather than reticulated natural gas across most of the hill. That changes appliance sizing, bottle siting and what a conversion involves.

- Bottle access matters. A bottle location that means the delivery driver carries 45kg up forty steps is a location that gets skipped. Worth thinking about before it's installed.

Why is my water pressure low in Cashmere?
