The everyday things — a tap that won't stop, a toilet that runs, a cylinder that's stopped keeping up, a gas hob that won't light cleanly. Plus the jobs you plan for: replacing a cylinder before it fails, putting in a filtered drinking tap, adding an outside tap, sorting out water pressure that's never been right.

You get the same person each time. That matters more than it sounds on a house you'll own for years — we already know your cylinder is in the hall cupboard, that the toby sticks, and that the previous owner ran PEX through half the place.

For landlords and property managers

Rental work has a different shape: tenants who need to be dealt with courteously, jobs that need doing without a week of back-and-forth, and paperwork that has to actually exist when someone asks for it.

• We deal with the tenant directly if you'd rather not be the middleman. We'll arrange access, turn up when we said, and let you know what we found.
• Gas safety certificates from a certifying gasfitter — $40 + GST for our own gasfitting work. The paperwork you need for a new appliance, a sale, or a tenant who's raised a concern. We only certify our own work; uncertified existing gas work is inspected and, where required, replaced to make it compliant before we certify it.
• Straight invoicing with enough detail that you can pass it on to an owner without translating it first.
• Honest triage. If a tenant's reported fault is something they can sort in two minutes, we'll tell you that rather than charging a callout for it.

A note on Healthy Homes: the standards cover heating, insulation, ventilation, moisture ingress and draught stopping. Plumbing and gas work isn't directly part of that regime — but a gas heater that isn't safe, or a bathroom extractor that isn't ducted properly, will come up in the same conversation. We'll tell you plainly what's our work and what isn't.

What a Christchurch house tends to need

The housing stock here is unusual, and it shows up in the work:

• Post-quake repair work left a lot of homes with mixed pipework and joins in places nobody documented. Pinhole leaks and unexplained pressure drops often trace back to it.
• Low pressure cylinders are still common in older homes. They're not a fault, but they do explain the shower you've been unhappy with for a decade, and there are options.
• Bottled LPG rather than reticulated gas across a lot of the city, which changes what appliances make sense and what a conversion involves.
• Real winters. Exposed pipework in unheated subfloors and garages is worth lagging before July, not after.

What it costs

Standard weekday work is $95 + GST an hour with a $135 + GST first hour including the $40 + GST call-out fee. Out of hours is $135 + GST an hour with a $300 + GST first hour. Gas certificates are $40 + GST, for our own work only. Quotes are free within Christchurch.
