What we do on commercial sites

• Hospitality gas. Commercial cooktops, ranges, chargrills, fryers and pizza ovens — connected, commissioned and certified by a certifying gasfitter. This is the work we get called for most, and it's the work most in demand when something fails.
• Small alterations. Moving or adding a sink, hand basin, dishwasher or glass washer, coffee machine plumbing, and the waste and supply runs that go with a change to an existing layout.
• Commercial hot water. Continuous flow and storage systems sized for the actual demand — a busy cafe and an office kitchenette are not the same problem.
• Reactive maintenance. Blocked wastes, gully traps, spouting and downpipes, failed mixers, leaking supply, toilets out of action in a customer-facing space. Blockages in the underground drain are drainlaying work and we will refer them on.
• Gas certificates for new and altered commercial appliances — $40 + GST where we've done the gasfitting. We certify our own work only; uncertified existing installations are inspected and made compliant first.

Alterations and small renovations

Alongside the maintenance we take on alterations and small renovation work on premises that are already up and running — changing what is there rather than plumbing a building from scratch.

• Moving or adding a fixture. A sink, hand basin, toilet or dishwasher going somewhere new, with the supply and waste runs to suit. What is already in the floor decides a lot about what is straightforward and what is not, and we will tell you which you are looking at before we start.
• Replacing appliances and hot water. Commercial cooktops, ranges, fryers and pizza ovens swapped out and recertified; hot water systems replaced and sized for the demand the site actually has, which is rarely the demand it was originally plumbed for.
• Refitting one area. A staff kitchen, a customer or accessible toilet, a cleaners' sink or a treatment room brought up to date without touching the rest of the premises.
• Upgrades that fix a recurring problem. Pressure, drainage falls, or a mixer that fails every winter — worth solving properly rather than repairing again.

What we don't take on: full commercial fit-outs and new commercial builds. If you are plumbing a new tenancy or a new building from scratch, you want a firm set up for that programme, and we would rather say so now than halfway through. Why the gas side matters

Gas is the strongest part of our business, and commercially it's usually where the pressure is. A cooktop that won't light or a fryer that's been red-tagged stops a kitchen trading, and there aren't many certifying gasfitters in Christchurch who'll pick up the phone at 5:30am to sort it.

Commercial gas appliances also have to be certified on installation and after any alteration. That isn't a formality — it's the document your insurer and your landlord will ask for, and it's what a council or a supplier will want to see. We issue it on completion.

Working around trading hours

Most of this work can be done before open or after close, and where it can, we'll do it that way. Out-of-hours rates apply — $135 + GST an hour with a $300 + GST first hour — but for a business, a few hours of after-hours labour is almost always cheaper than closing the doors during service.

For anything that can safely wait, standard weekday rates apply at $95 + GST an hour. We'll tell you which makes more sense for your job rather than defaulting to the more expensive one.

Landlords, tenants and who pays

Before you sign, a plumbing and gas report on the tenancy is worth a great deal more than finding out in your first winter. Commercial leases split plumbing responsibility in ways that vary enormously — some put everything past the meter on the tenant, some keep base building services with the landlord. We don't need to know the answer to do the work, but we will document clearly what was wrong and what was done, so the invoice lands with whoever it should.

Multi-site and portfolio work

If you run several sites, or manage a portfolio, having one certifying plumbing and gasfitting team across all of them saves a lot of time. We'll keep track of what's installed where, what's been certified and when, and what's likely to need attention next — rather than starting from scratch every callout.
