What we do commercially
- Hospitality gas. Commercial cooktops, ranges, chargrills, fryers and pizza ovens — connected, commissioned and certified by a certifying gasfitter. This is the work we get called for most, and it's the work most in demand when something fails.
- Fit-outs and alterations. New sinks, hand basins, dishwashers, glass washers, coffee machine plumbing, waste and supply runs for a new layout.
- Commercial hot water. Continuous flow and storage systems sized for the actual demand — a busy cafe and an office kitchenette are not the same problem.
- Backflow prevention. Testable devices where the network requires them, and the certification that goes with them.
- Reactive maintenance. Blocked wastes and grease traps, failed mixers, leaking supply, toilets out of action in a customer-facing space.
- Gas certificates for new and altered commercial appliances — $40 + GST.
Why the gas side matters
Gas is the strongest part of our business, and commercially it's usually where the pressure is. A cooktop that won't light or a fryer that's been red-tagged stops a kitchen trading, and there aren't many certifying gasfitters in Christchurch who'll pick up the phone at 5:30am to sort it.
Commercial gas appliances also have to be certified on installation and after any alteration. That isn't a formality — it's the document your insurer and your landlord will ask for, and it's what a council or a supplier will want to see. We issue it on completion.
Working around trading hours
Most commercial work can be done before open or after close, and where it can, we'll do it that way. Out-of-hours rates apply — $120 + GST an hour with a $250 + GST first hour — but for a business, a few hours of after-hours labour is almost always cheaper than closing the doors during service.
For anything that can safely wait, standard weekday rates apply at $95 + GST an hour. We'll tell you which makes more sense for your job rather than defaulting to the more expensive one.
Landlords, tenants and who pays
Commercial leases split plumbing responsibility in ways that vary enormously — some put everything past the meter on the tenant, some keep base building services with the landlord. We don't need to know the answer to do the work, but we will document clearly what was wrong and what was done, so the invoice lands with whoever it should.
Multi-site and portfolio work
If you run several sites, or manage a portfolio, having one certifying plumber and gasfitter across all of them saves a lot of time. We'll keep track of what's installed where, what's been certified and when, and what's likely to need attention next — rather than starting from scratch every callout.
